Cranes for Chris - A Fitting Tribute

A few weeks ago a friend of our, Chris Livesley, was tragically killed in a car crash. He was a well loved and important member of our community at the school where we work and live, his loss was felt by everyone.

You can read the East Grinstead Courier report here http://www.thisissussex.co.uk/eastgrinstead/news/Forest-Row-community-shock-crash-death-fireman/article-648431-detail/article.html.

I came up with the idea of asking everyone in the community to make at least one origami crane in memory of Chris. This was not only a fitting tribute to Chris but helped give us all a focus during this difficult time. We were aiming for 1000 cranes and had 500 folded and threaded into garlands in time to send to Chris' funeral, once the other 500 cranes are ready they will be hung up at the school in memory of Chris. The photo at the start of the post shows the 500 granes just before they went to the funeral.

I am not quite sure how many cranes we made in the end as the ones which didn't go to his funeral became scattered around the school where they were made into mobiles etc. But I do know that his wife was very touched by the effort everyone put in.
